閣夜 - 杜甫
Western Pavilion - Du Fu
Year’s end Yin and Yang press the days shorter,
flakes cease falling on the horizon this cold night.
At dawn, the pained thunder of drums and horns,
the reflection of the milky way in the Three Gorges shakes.
The families here all sob when news of war arrives,
here and there fisherman and woodcutters sing folk songs.
Crouching Dragon and White Emperor in the end returned to soil,
news of the outside world overflows with loneliness.
